Calvin Luo
Calvin Luo is a classical violinist focused on violin performance through solo recitals, chamber ensembles, and orchestral playing to bring classical music to the public. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance at the University of Denver’s Lamont of Music.
As a solo violinist, Calvin has played numerous major works including concertos and showpieces. In 2019, he performed Bruch’s Violin Concerto as the winner of the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Concerto Competition at San Francisco’s State University. In 2022, Calvin featured the Dvorak Violin Concerto as part of his junior recital at the Lamont School of Music in Denver.
An avid chamber and orchestral musician, Calvin actively plays in ensemble settings. In 2019, he was selected to participate in a quartet mentorship program with the modern music focused Kronos Quartet in San Francisco. Calvin is a member of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra at the University of Denver. He is also a part of the String Chamber program at Lamont playing in various chamber groups.
Calvin has also volunteered and played at charity events for the Chinese American community in San Francisco California. Starting at age 8, he has performed at annual events including galas for local Chinese television, Lunar New Year Festivals, and trade shows.
Mr. Luo’s principal teachers include Kineko Barbini of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Pre-College and Linda Wang of the Lamont School of Music. He has also participated in a masterclass with Guðný Guðmundsdóttir from Iceland. Upon graduating from Lamont, Calvin hopes to pursue a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance and one day become a professional working violinist.
